Some frequently asked questions on Laser Permanent Hair Reduction.
Do I have to grow my hair to have Laser done?
NO! The best part of having Laser done is that once you finally decide
to take that step you never have to look at that unsightly hair again!
You must avoid bleaching, plucking, or waxing hair for 6 weeks prior
to treatment. The only thing allowed is shaving or cutting. You can
also shave in between treatments and this will not affect the Laser
or make the hair any stronger.
Can I use a Sunbed or go on a Sun Holiday
while I am having a course of Laser treatments?
Avoid the Sun or Sunbeds for 4-6 weeks before and after Laser
treatment Tanned skin CANNOT be treated. If treated white spots will
appear which may not clear for 2-3 months.
Can Laser be carried out if I am wearing
False Tan?
Laser CANNOT be carried out if you are wearing any form of
False Tan or Natural Tan on the area on your day of treatment.
Is the hair you want treated Red, White,
or Grey?
In our experience the Laser will not respond to hair of this
colouring. The Laser targets the melanin which is the pigment in the
hair and as there is very little in hair of this colouring it makes
it impossible to get results.
Does it hurt to have Laser treatment?
Laser is something we would call uncomfortable but by no means
painful! It is a very quick treatment taking no longer than the time
allowed to have the area waxed.
How will the area look after I have a Laser
treatment?
Immediately after the Laser procedure the area can be slightly
pink to very red which is completely normal. This may last up to 24
hours (or 2-3 days which is rare).
How should I prepare my skin before having
a Laser treatment?
The day before you are due to have your treatment shave the
area. Shaving the same day as your treatment will leave the skin sensitive,
irritated and more prone to reaction. Our technicians cannot be responsible
for shaving this is up to the client. We cannot do the treatment on
the day if the area hasn’t been prepared. Also flashback from
the hair can affect the laser. Also refrain from using any perfumes,
body lotions, moisturisers, and deodorants on the areas to be treated
for that day.
What should I expect after having my Laser
treatment?
You will not have any new hair growth for at least 4 weeks.
Anywhere from 5-14 days after the treatment, shedding of the surface
hair may occur and this appears as new hair growth. This is NOT new
hair growth. You can clean and remove the hair by washing or wiping
the area with a wet cloth or loofah sponge.
Do I need to have a patch test before having
Laser?
Yes! We offer a FREE consultaion and patch test. You are under
no obligation to book a course with us by having a consultation but
it will give us an opportunity to explain all about our Laser, how it
works, and whether or not you are suitable to have it done. The patch
test will also give you an insight into how well the Candela GentleLase
works!
Patch tests must be left 1 week before a treatment is carried out as
it can take this long for a reaction to occur.
How many sessions of Laser will I need to
have?
With our courses we offer 8 sessions on the face & 6 sessions
on the body, followed by 1 annual maintenance session. Client commitment
is very important you will need to come every 4-8 weeks depending on
the area to be treated. However growth reduction is dependent on stress,
hormonal changes, medication, regularity of treatments and colour of
skin & hair. Poly Cystic Ovary syndrome also slows the results of
treatments on the face and maintenance may be necessary.
Can I have Laser treatments if I am on medication
or under Doctors care for any reason?
Some medications are contra-indicated to Laser but we will
be able to go through this in further detail during a consultation.
If at any time during a course of treatments you start taking a new
medication ( herbal, anti-biotic etc) it is EXTREMELY important that
you let the technician know before she begins the treatment. Also if
you are under doctors supervision for any reason we will need to be
made aware of this.
